The Promise Keeper

Last Saturday, I photographed the surprise proposal of two of my dear friends. It was a really special moment to witness this couple make a lifelong commitment to each other. They were making a promise, a promise to care and hold each other’s hearts for a lifetime. Their love imitates Christ’s love, one that is total, free, faithful, and fruitful.

The Lord is a divine promise keeper. He knows exactly what is meant to be for you. Though it might not always seem like it at times, God never fails to keep his promises. Yet, understanding this truth is difficult. Especially for me. As someone who hates uncertainty and ambiguity, it is hard not to worry and doubt. Does God truly know what’s best for me? Am I following His plan? Is this really where He wants me to be?

So, the big news… I received an offer letter to attend a graduate school that is out of state. Yup. 2,546 miles away from home to be exact. I will be traveling to visit the school this week. You would think I’m over the moon about it. But, in actuality, I am scared of what the future holds and all of the unknowns. However, I know that God loves me, promises to care for me, and never fails to keep his promises. One of my good friends from ministry always reminds me to review Matthew 6:25-34 whenever he sees me worried or stressed out.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given you besides. Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil.

Matthew 6:33-34

His promises are not made up of empty words. His faithfulness knows no bounds. Knowing that God is a divine promise keeper gives me hope and assurance that the bad times will pass, and goodness waits ahead. In the face of great doubt and worry, I try to find the light that the Lord pours into my life and exercise gratitude. During the highest highs and lowest lows, God always provides. So let us make a promise to the Lord, to trust His faithfulness, love, and goodness forever.
