The Importance of the Feminine Genius
Happy International Women’s Day! This day celebrates and recognizes the beauty and strength that women possess. The times are changing. Femininity is seen as a strength, not a weakness. Though gender inequality is still prevalent in today’s society, we are working towards a future that allows every little girl to dream bigger. Women are a force to be reckoned with.
What is the Feminine Genius?
The Feminine Genius is a phrase popularized by Pope John Paul II to describe the special abilities that women possess. Women are powerful and special in their own way. When we bring the feminine genius to any space, we make the world more welcoming, kinder, and personable. We inherently possess an innate sensitivity to the goodness of the human person. Women have an irreplaceable and special role in the world and the church. Regardless of age and vocation, every woman possesses a feminine genius that can bless the community and people around them.
The world needs the feminine genius.
How I Live Out the Feminine Genius
Every woman possesses the feminine genius. There is no set of standards that makes us more or less female. A girl who likes to wear shorts is no less a woman than a girl who likes to wear dresses. What matters is the heart that we possess and how we utilize our strengths for the betterment of society.
For me, I live out the feminine genius by giving back to my community. I think it is extremely important to utilize the talents, skills, and experiences that you hold to make the world a better place. My mom always told me, “lead with your heart.” Since then, I have made this four-word phrase my mission in life. Wherever I go, I plan on doing work that glorifies the greater good and God.
Another practical ways that I live out the feminine genius is through prayer and reflection. Since I work at home, I have incorporated going to daily mass as a part of my morning routine when I have no early morning meetings. After mass, I’ll spend about an hour in the chapel to pray, reflect, and journal. Spending time with Jesus has really helped me stay rooted in my faith and explore my identity as a woman. In the silence, I open myself up to the gifts and blessings God has bestowed upon me. I can rest in the knowledge that I am loved by Him. This, alone, reminds me of my worthiness and strength as a daughter of God.
As I move forward in life, I continue to let Him guide my heart and fix my eyes on all things above.
