Strawberry Matcha Latte

When you’re stuck in 90-degree weather, the best way to relieve the unbearable and suffocating heat is by drinking a sweet and refreshing drink. Earlier this year, I visited San Francisco and had a strawberry matcha latte at Boba Guys for the first time. It was lifechanging. Pairing strawberry and matcha together is a gamechanger. I knew that I had to recreate it at home, with the same look and flavors as the one from Boba Guys. After experimenting in the kitchen, I was able to nail down this easy recipe. This strawberry matcha latte is the absolute best, and it’s also ridiculously easy to make.

What Makes the Perfect Strawberry Matcha Latte

  • Ceremonial Grade Matcha
    • If you want to make good matcha, don’t settle for just any good old matcha powder. Make sure you get the ceremonial kind. There are two types of matcha that you can purchase: ceremonial and culinary. The ceremonial grade is a vibrant green with a rich and creamy flavor. This is the kind you want to use for drinks. The culinary grade has a bitter, grassy flavor profile. It’s typically used for baking and cooking. While the ceremonial grade is more expensive, it’s definitely worth the investment.
  • Whole Milk
    • For a creamier and richer profile, use whole milk for your latte. If you are lactose intolerant, you can use other milk alternatives in lieu of dairy. I recommend substituting with soy or almond milk!
  • Strawberry PurΓ©e
    • It is more of a textural preference, but I like my strawberry purΓ©e left chunky. When you leave the purΓ©e at a chunky consistency, you’ll get pops of sweetness at the bottom of your drink! I really like the texture elements of a chunky strawberry purΓ©e because it adds a textural element to the drink just like boba would. If you don’t like this texture, just purΓ©e it all the way.

  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp matcha powder
